Two things i learned today:
1. Dimes, Nickels, and Pennys fit UNDER the power window controls in your car-Yes those little
things u use one finger to click up and down to make the windows go up and down
2. How to get Dimes, Nickels and Pennys OUT FROM UNDER the little controls-a screw driver,
some tweezers and a lot of patience
THANK YOU BUG, without you i can say i probably would not be that much smarter today :/
Being a working unattached mother can be a little challenging at times, so i'm always looking for the best way to eat, cook, clean and maximize time with my Baby Bug while keeping the bills paid. I'm gonna start to share my experiences in accomplishing all that while sharing about my experiences and growing as a mother. Maybe someone will laugh, cry, or even learn something from my experience...Enjoy!

PottyTraining
I am going to blunt and just say it, the Bug is playing me! Bug 1 Momma Bug 0 BUT i will be consistent and win the battle...i am determined.
I have been sitting this black man on the pot and he pee's but wont poop. He wont tell me when he has to pee though he just pee's sometimes when he is there. WELL now he knows poop is on his butt when he does poop, so he he will come to you with his butt facing you and look at you then say "apoo". I am so frustrated because he will be on the pot and wont poo, but he know what poo feels like and doesn't want it on his butt!
So his teacher suggested i put underwear on him. Seeing as the Bug is very particular and doesn't care to be dirty maybe poo'ing and pee'ing in underpants would a step in the right direction of getting him to poo and pee in the pot. SO this weekend i put underwear on him...he flipped out when he saw cars on is butt. He was so excited he did a little dance and everything. But it didn't work at all.
Next weekend we will go out at it again because like i told you i am determined to get this smart black man to pee and poop on the pot!

Relocated to the hall way
We are working on the Bug self soothing still! So at night time when it is bed time i lay him down in his bed give him kisses and tuck him in. He hates having to sleep alone.
So much that the other night he protested in fake crys and then stopped 2 minutes in. I was ecstatic! i felt we were getting somewhere with this self soothing thing. Then 30 minutes later i am sitting in the front room and hear snores real close. I figured he fell asleep at the foot of his bed and the door was open so it was louder for that reason. I did not pay it any mind and i finished doing what i was doing. When i as done i go up to go to my room and there i found my Bug laying in the hall way sleep. Not only was he laying in the hallway BUT he had relocated all his stuff in the hallway! He moved his favorite pillow, his blanket and his football pillow, closed his door and went to sleep. Funniest thing i have ever seen..but now i am curious why doesn't he care for his room or his bed?

Merry Christmas!
Im not sure if i will be blogging before the holiday so let me say this now...from our house to yours i hope everyone who stops by our blog has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New year!
Christmas Tree Farm
After Thanksgiving we ventured to a Christmas tree farm not to far away. It was awesome! It was a local fun event that was free to get into and the Bugs God Mommy joined us for the day with her camera! You know what that meant we got some EXCELLENT Christmas photo time!
We got to the park and the bug ran into the petting zoo. He chased the turkeys and chickens as the goats tried to eat his God Mommy and I. We saw chickens, even chickens with feathers on their feet or as God Mommy said "these chickens have bell bottoms on their legs". The bug was not to into the bunny's or the big tortoise but made sure he had a conversation with the horse waving and saying hi!
Then we made our way to ride the pony's. He LOVED riding the pony's even though he just went in a circle for like 5 minutes! There was games and rides there too. My bug was not into the slides, or other rides and i do not know why because they are the same inflatable toys he plays on at pump it up. We did shove him in the little kid mickey mouse bounce house. He kept sliding out and the attendant was really good with kids and he started to play with him so the bug stayed in for a short while. He then saw these John Deer cars in a little pin. He drove one but he could not get the concept of steering down, so he would make his way to one end of the pin and crash and then try to turn the car around. That attendant was not so great so we cut that ride down in time.
The bug got to see the Christmas trees and run through them, but then we realized it was close to nap time as he lost his focus and listening ears, so we cut our trip short and headed toward the exit. THEN we saw the gift store. This might have been my favorite little small business Christmas store i have ever seen. Just Christmas stuff everywhere and about almost everything looked homemade.
The day was amazing and the bug fell asleep as soon as we got on the freeway to go home. Pictures, animals, rides, and we ended it by having a treat at sonic, that's when the bug magically woke up to eat all my tots. This day might become a tradition as the years pass by.

Knocked Out!
Sleeping with his Life line
Corn Bread
Last weekend i made dinner for one of my friends. She had never had soul food, so we lightly touched the surface of comfort food fried and cooked with a lot of butter.
I made fried chicken, cabbage, cornbread, mac-n-cheese, and mash potatoes. My best friend came through and made greens..i do not eat greens so i cant make them...we had to out source that task. When all the food was done we had a house full of people who showed up to eat so it made it like a family dinner table...it was nice, kind of made me excited for the day i have my own house and can do holiday dinners!
While we ate the Bug was in his room watching Cars 2. When we were done and had migrated to couch to lay down fat and happy the bug emerged from his room. He walked pass 5 adults, went into the kitchen, opened the fridge and got him self a Capri Sun. On his way out of the kitchen he walked pass the table he stood on his tippy toes and saw the cornbread in little individual cup cake shapes. He grabbed one, walked to an adult and said "help" while giving them his Capri Sun. Someone put his straw in the hole, he said "thank you" which came out as "ya you" and walked back in his room to watch his movie. Funniest thing EVER, this 2 year old served himself and went back his movie.
The next day his aunt was leaving our house and she was taking all the extra cornbread home with her, so she had a sandwich bag full of the little loafs. The Bug walked past her bag, doubled back and opened her bag took one out then put the bag back in her bag. Yes you got it right she got corn bread jacked! HAHAHAH
So i now know if i make cornbread, or any other sort of bread if i put it in a cup cake tin to bake him individual servings it increases my chances of him eating it! Oh how i how i love teaching and learning with my child.

Ready to Hit the Road
This was a rainy weekend at home, filled with Decorating or Christmas, baking peach cobblers and errands in between showers.
At one point i said "come bug lets go we have stuff to do" and he started throwing his hot wheels and train tracks in his back pack! I watched in him carefully put all his toys in his back pack, zip it up and hand it to me. He then turned around and put his hand out like come on mom help me put it on. I put his back pack on and he waited for me to put his hat on his head then he grabbed the tow truck and the train and went to the front door. CLASSIC We are now at the point where he knows his back pack enables him to his toys with him.

Christmas Decor!
Today i set up my Christmas decor...well some of it. As my bugs God mommy says "An elf came into our living room and exploded!"
The bug was napping as i decorated and when he woke up we left home to run some errands. When we got back the house was dark and i plugged in the lights. i can tell you the face my Bug made made me explode with joy!! He was so excited and shocked, all he could say was "ooohhhh wow" as he walked up next to our little tree that was all lite up in multi color lights!
He is so intrigued with touching everything. My decor has been up for less than 6 hours and he has managed to break a Penguin, pull off my jingle bells on the door, and take 3 bulbs off my tree. He is going to learn very quick whats decor you can touch and what you have to leave alone.
I can not wait for Christmas now. He is gonna have so much fun when he wakes up and see's all the gifts and toys surrounding our tree.

Blowing out the Fire
The Bug is paying hooky today. He is sickie still, a little congestion with a runny nose so thank GOD for retried grandparents. His school sent him home for the day yesterday, so i kept him home today. Its a little cold outside so the Bug and Grandpa are snuggled up next to the fire.
The Bug has been able to sign hot for quite sometime now, but now he really knows what hot is, so i thought id share his cute little video Grandpa sent me today.
He knows the fire is hot so he is trying to blow it out but he doesn't quite understand his little blowing wont make moves on the big flames.

Bye Bye Fall
Fall is almost over and we are now getting to my favorite time CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!
This year we are on our own for the FIRST time ever, so i just might start decorating before thanks giving so i have more Christmas time in my house. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this season and cant wait for the baking, the smiles, the good nature in everyone tat should come out all year long to blossom in full affect all as we get ready to celebrate the birth of our savior! SO EXCITED!!!
This year i thought id be smart and start buying the bugs Christmas gifts little by little. I went to target and found this cool wooden train set, with a round house and magnetic hook up train cars and tow truck truck. I let hi play with it in the cart so i could see if it was a toy he really enjoyed. He did enjoy it so i bought it and i left it in the car when i brought up all the other items i had purchased. When i put all the other bags on the ground int he house the bug was looking through them all saying "wherisit" (yes all one word) and i KNEW what he was looking for but i kept replying "where is what?". He eventual forgot BUT i guess that's the end of buying gifts with him seeing them.
When i was little i remember the conversations on the phone spelling words i didn't know when my parents were telling my aunts and grandparents what i wanted and they bought it. My mom has done the complete opposite yet just as cool. She said ima send you money tell me what you buy him, wrap it put my name on it and bam done. So SMART! the bug gets what he wants/needs, she doesn't have to stand in any line or do any wrapping and the goal is accomplished with the bug getting spoiled by Gramie Ya Ya.
All in all we are saying good bye to fall and hello to winter and i am excited. So here is to all the posts of sweet baked goods, and sweet memories we will make this season!

Halloween
This year Momma Bug got to dress up with all the Aunties and the Uncles to celebrate Uncle Rob's Birthday! We had a blast!!
Then when it came down to dress up with the kiddies the Bug was sick on Halloween, but i still got a picture of him in his costume...even got one of him crying which i think is classically kind of funny. He picked his outfit and carried it to the cash register, but when i dressed him up to take the pic he cried because i made him wear the hat! It was an out fit, you cant just wear pieces of it and call it a fit.
Hopefully next year the Bug wont be sick and we can dress up together and go to a trunk or treat celebration!
Sickie Bug
Whew i found another moment to log whats been going in our lives!
I feel extremely busy right now in our lives, on top of everything normal we are doing i had finals this week and wouldn't you know it the bug gets sick! This is the first time he has been sickie. On Sunday he was congested when he came home from Grandpa's, and cousin J was there, she had a fever so they were both under the weather. Cute thing was the Bug wanted to play and J was laying lifeless with her fever watching a movie and the bug goes over to her puts his hand on her forehead and gives her a kiss on her forehead then goes away. Every time he came in the room where she was laying down he did this. SO CUTE!
So Sunday we were congested, and we went about or normal routine. Then at 11pm he walks out of his room sweating buckets! Temperature of 103 came to visit. i got it down to 98 pretty quick when i called grandpa to see if he could watch the bug so i didn't have to send him to school. Grandpa said yes and wanted to have the bug over night so i took him over there with medicine wrapped up like a piggy in a blanket. The night was good the bug was just congested a bit, and the next day was Halloween so we were looking forward to going trick or treating with cousin j and seeing JD ..but none of that happened.
We stayed home and handed out tracs with grandpa. The Bug was so cute, he couldn't say trick or treat but he could make his voice go up and down in sounds like he was saying trick or treat and he put a bag of candy and a trac in all the kids bags. He got to the point he saw the kids walking up the drive way and he would stand in the door way and wave the bag of candy like here it is come and get it!
As soon as the last trick or treater left the house...BLEH the bug threw up all over me! I froze, i didn't want to run and make a trail or throw up and i didn't want him to feel scared because it was his first time throwing up thats got to be traumatizing all in itself. The mean while my dad is yelling in the background "take him to the toilet, move move move". Did not help the situation at all. I ended up leaving him at grandpa's for two days, then taking him to the doctor on the third day.
We came to the conclusion that he was congested and wheezing, which made it harder for his body to breath and ended up making him sick. SO we know have a cough medicine hat has a nausea suppressant and an inhaler with an aero chamber. Things seem to be better, but now is the time where when he is better we have to keep a close on eye on him, to see if this is going to be something that occurs when the seasons change or if it is something that might be a chronic problem with his health.
Tracs-for all those who know but don't know |

28 Month Update
We are a few days shy of being 28 months and the words are starting to come more frequently now. Other kids have been talking for months BUT not my bug. I am not complaining either, silence is golden because i know when he does start to talk it means i will have to answer and answer and answer all day long. SO i am in no rush we will cross that bridge when it comes.
But i thought id take a moment an give an update on the words we are using frequently and in the correct context.
Saying/Speaking
Ball Ball
Sit Sit
Ny Ny (night Night)-he says this when it's time to go to sleep or when we see a bed, a bed is a Ny Ny

Acoo-trying to say "a cookie"

No No
Up
Eat Eat
Ree Ree-Read
Pishy-Fishy
Peet-Feet

Heuh-Help
go
acah-"A car" even its if a train or a truck is "acah"
where is it

You can give the bug any direction, or talk to him in English and he COMPLETELY understand he just wont talk in full sentences (in English) yet. I can also sign sentences like "Mommy said come here" or "Mommy said no, do not touch" and he understands...he might not listen all the time but he totally knows what i am saying.
So our work continues i bet by Christmas we will have conversations....maybe then daycare will jump on board with this potty training stuff.

Pumpkin Patch 2011
Funniest sign i saw all day, something i would do... |
Picking the PERFECT Pumpkins! |
Feeding the animals. |
We searched for the Perfect Pumpkin and my Bug ran all over the field, rode in his wagon, and pushed pumpkins up the hill.
Then we went to the petting zoo and he had a great time letting the goats eat from his hand.
The Bug loved riding the pony's, but HATED wearing the helmet. He cried from the time we put it on until we averted his attention by getting him to sit on the horse. When he got on he loved it! The horse stopped and he poked it as if he was telling the horse "c'mon go go".
When had to get from the patch to the petting zoo and the Bug insisted he be the one the dragging the wagon, yet he kept crashing into people...so next year we will work on that. Then we ran through a hay maze while the Auntie chased him back and forth and back forth.
When we got home, i carved one of the pumpkins and made pumpkin seeds for the first time!! I have to say my pumpkin came out pretty well and my seeds well they tasted good but i think i cooked them just a little to long. They tasted like sunflower seeds.
Mommy made pumpkin seeds and carved a Pretty cool Pumpkin |
When we got to the car the Bug crashed HARD! It was a GREAT day.
Pumpkin Patch 2011 Crew, Auntie's, Mommy and Bug! |
Bird Grandpa!
Last night the Bug was staying with his grandpa....doing man things, when i get the FUNNIEST phone call ever...it went a little something like this...
and he hung up lol
Funniest thing ever, i mean my son does talk just in another language. I find it funny that people don't associate his correct usage and understanding of ASL as talking when i see it as communication. I wonder if people would think differently if i had started teaching him something more popular like Spanish. Or maybe it would make more "sense" if it was something verbal.
Maybe its more comical to me as last week i had a mom at the Bugs school ask me "what its like to have a deaf son". I must have had the most confused looked on my face when i responded with "um i would not know, my son is not deaf he is just bi-lingual".
I guess its just off the grain to teach your child something other than Spanish. I figure when my Bug goes to school, pre school, and everywhere in between Spanish will come...then he will know THREE languages when you look at it like i do!
Grandpa: Hey, why is your son putting his index finger and thumb together in a pinching motion...he just keeps doing it in my face!
Me: OOH he is signing Bird
Grandpa: Oh we did see a bird on his cartoon...I wish you would teach this guy how to talk, ohkay BYE!
and he hung up lol

We have been busy Bugs!
Wow its been almost two months since i have written one blog! You KNOW i have been busy if i have not been able to update on here!
So here is whats going on...
The Bug:
So much more is come and happen in our lives in the next two years i look forward to sharing the stories, just bare with us because A LOT is going on so i might be missing in action to report with big gaps in between.
So here is whats going on...
The Bug:
- LOVES to go to places like Pump It Up sliding and bouncing his way around
Look at my youtube channel for more (ilikefootballz)
- Says and Signs-Eat, Sit, Drink, NyNy(night night) every day!
- He can look at pictures now and say and sign words.. For example when he sees a bed he points at it and says "Ny Ny". We are still confused on drink and eat. He says eat, signs eat then signs drink all three combined means he wants a capri...we have some defining work to do BUT hey its progress.
- We are still working on the potty training thing-he will take his diaper off and poop (ANYWHERE on the bed in the corners) but wont poop on the potty. Needless to say he always has on pants over his diapers. Maybe i should invest in some undies and see if that promotes a different feeling. He doesn't associate the feeling with the location but knows your suppose to see poop and pee when u get off the pot...its gonna be a long road. I am convinced i would take the teething and ear infections over potty training. We are looking at sports teams he can join early
- While at school last week we bit someone twice in one day! i do not know when this phase started but i want it nipped in the bud with the quickness!
So much more is come and happen in our lives in the next two years i look forward to sharing the stories, just bare with us because A LOT is going on so i might be missing in action to report with big gaps in between.

Start him young...
When i was younger my mom knew as soon as we could reach the kitchen sink we were washing dishes, and as soon as we could see the knobs on the washing machine it was time to learn how to do laundry!
Proverbs 22:6
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
I get it! SO the other night i was washing dishes and the Bug came in the kitchen whining about something so we got a stool and i put him to work! I washed a bowl and he rinsed it. Granted it took him about 10 minutes to "rinse" (fill it up play in water and fill it up three times to play and dumb water in the sink) a bowl he did it. and then he put it off on the side.
He was so proud of him self when he was done. He signed all done, and then got off the stool and went to play. I was happy and yet i couldn't stop laughing, he rinsed ONE bowl and said ummm ok thats enough. I can tell this is gonna be a life long journey of fighting to get chores done...

Little Bug??
So My bug is about 26 months old now. He weighs 30 lbs, stands 31.5 inches tall and his head is 19.5 cm.
He wears all sorts of different sizes in clothes...no really he does. His shirt sizes are 2T/3Tfor the most part (except with target shirts the seem to run small), and he wears 24 month/2T bottoms. He is in a size 9 shoe and has about a quarter of an inch to go before we get to a size 10. Bad thing is i just bought the nines this weekend and i can almost bet by Halloween we will be in a 10.

- According to his doctor he is petite. He is healthy, but short, and could be more plump but his head holds a lot of knowledge AKA she think he has a big head.
- According to Babycenter.com he is under the percentiles!
Length = below percentile 5
Weight = between percentile 50 and 75
Head Circumference = below percentile 5
- According to the chart that's in his file he is short but ok in the weight class.
- According to his teachers...he is a big boy and they think he will be be a linebacker sort of big boy.
- According to me...he is healthy, happy and has a GREAT smile everyday so we are golden!
Grape Harvest Festival
This weekend we saw Auntie KC at church and she invited us to the Grape Harvest Festival in our town. I had never heard of it before and it was pretty fun. Rides, games, vendors and FOOD. I think next year the Bug will really enjoy it a bit more as this year he was a little too little for the rides and games...so i made him stay in his stroller just about the entire time so i didn't have to chase him.
I had garlic potatoes fries, The bug got a Kettle corn with he shared with his God-Grammy and he drank my lemonade. So it wasnt even a terrible costly outing. The bug also got to see a fire truck and fire fighters.
That was his highlight. As we walked up to the truck he gasped and said "OOOH WOW". The fire fighters loved his excitement and gave him a hat, stickers, a coloring book, a pencil...and way to much extra stuff.
It was a fun impromptu day hopefully we remember them next year when it rolls around!

Cars Everywhere!
My Bug still LOVES trains but now he is into Cars. He loves to play with cars, Hot Wheels to be exact, but any car will do.
Over the last 24 hours i have found cars EVERYWHERE...literally everywhere.
I have found cars:
He even lines cars up to watch movies with him. Falls asleep holding them and when he wakes up to turn over he grabs the car and snuggles up.
My niece has her "Baby" (a stuffed teddy bear). I guess cars will just be is thing. I thank God for my little boy. I truly believe he knew what i could handle with ease when he gave me my Bug, a boys boys. Cars under my pillow, in my couch, and on his feet amuse me...don't think i would feel the same right now about finding Barbie accessories around the house. YET at the same time it makes me smile when my niece leaves princess stickers, or paper dolls after she comes to visit. Contradictory and weird i know but true.

Uh Oh Cheerio's
The Bug eats cereal at school, with milk in a bowl. SO i thought ok lets keep these eating habits going and i served him cereal at home this weekend in a bowl. I do not know if he has the same issues at school he had with me, but i can tell you we will only be doing cereal once a week if that at my house!
I gave him his cereal in a bowl and had the milk on the side in a cup. He saw the milk and got excited i wanted him to be apart of "making" his breakfast so he would be more interested to eat what he helped create...baby steps i know. Everything went as planed he poured his milk in his bowl and he started eating his cereal with his spoon. Then i guess he wanted to feel the cereal or he figured his hands would get the job done faster so he ditched the spoon and started shoveling Cheerios in with his hands. Once he had eaten enough to where he could see milk floating in the bowl he started to drink the milk out of the bowl. Which normally would not be a problem BUT he started to drink with out using his hands and he had not finished his cereal. So in short it was one big mess. Which he loved. He played in it and he ate the cereal that had fallen out of his bowl sitting on the table.
I guess you have to learn somehow right?
Oh Oh Cheerios...NOM NOM NOM! |
Cant cry over spilled milk |
There's still milk in this bowl mom!! |
1st attempt drinking out the bowl |

Mommas Chili
This weekend i made chili. I do not care if its hot or cold out chili is a comfort food for me.
I do not know how to cook in small portions either so i had a big pot of chili for just me and the baby bug, and he actually ended up eating some. I also made cornbread, yes real cornbread not jiff hahah.
I think chili and cornbread are good hearty meals to make, that are cost efficient and the chili freezes well. Pluses all around in my book. I never have to freeze the cornbread because between my Bug and my Brother the skillet of cornbread doesn't last past day two.

My J, My Bug and My Skyy
My sister has two girls and i have my Baby bug. These kids are so great, they are all three at stair step levels in their development and its is so funny to watch them all interact.
My J is 3, speaks fluently and loves to apply the answers to her daily 3 thousand "Why" questions.
My Bug is 2, does not use words to talk, signs a few words to communicate, and is in the just learning to listen and respond accordingly phase.
My little mama is 1, she is a bow legged pigeon toe walker who is bossy with her three words she does know "Hi, Hey and Eat" we are gonna be roll dogs especially in the food category.
I love my sister for making sure that we start these play dates so they get to know each other, and they do. When J and my Bug realized they are together they get all excited and rambunctious...unless J's older cousin is around then she wants to hang with the big kids. Its so fun to see them get close like we did when we were little around each other everyday and every weekend of our child hood.
